Judicial Independence and Public Trust: Insights from the Court of Appeal Justices’ Annual Conference

On 11 December 2024, I chaired a session on Judicial Independence at the Court of Appeal Justices Annual End-of-Year Conference themed Judicial Introspection. The Honourable Minister of the FCT, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, CON, delivered a keynote emphasizing that independence requires competence and character. I addressed unsubstantiated claims of judicial corruption, calling for data-backed reports, and urged the judiciary to rebuild public trust by controlling its narrative. The conference highlighted the judiciary’s vital role as the cornerstone of democracy and national stability.
